How to Share your Lost Pet on Facebook

After you have submitted your lost pet to our website you should use the Facebook post to share to as many people as possible. There are many local lost and found pet “groups” created on facebook that it’s impossible for us to post to them, so it’s up to you. Here’s how you can!

Sharing our Facebook Post

Sharing will not only make Facebook notify you of any replies/comments on your pet’s post, but with a few tips can help the post garner more attention.

You will see a box at the bottom of your pets Facebook post that says “share”. This is where you should start:

Clicking ‘Share’ on our post will pull up a menu.

Click ‘Share Post Now’ to share the post on your wall with your friends immediately.

Click “Share” again and this time select the ‘Share…’ option from the menu.shareoptions
you will have the option to post to your timeline, a friends timeline, a private message, or share to a group.

Sharing to Lost and Found Pet Groups

This is a hugely important step that many people do not realize. Often when someone finds a dog/cat they will post it on their local lost pet group – you should not only search for these groups, but share your Facebook post there also. Usually these groups are named after your County or City such as “lost and found pets of Los Angeles, and there may very likely be more than a few in your area. These groups contain many passionate pet lovers who will aid in your search by checking shelters for you and keep an eye out.

Because almost all groups require that you join them first (often instantly accepted), you’ll need to search and join all your local facebook groups before sharing your pet’s post to them. Join these groups and once they accept your membership you can go back to your pets My Lost Pet Alert page and share our post to the group by clicking ‘share’  and then “share in a group.” Then type the name of the group you would like to share in.

That’s it! Now that you’ve shared our post with your friends and community you may get leads or tips in the form of comments on your shared post on your wall or on a friends wall. Make sure you follow up with any comments you get. By default you should receive notifications from Facebook whenever someone comments on a post you have shared.

Getting your lost pet’s information out to as many eyes as possible will do a lot to improve the chances of getting your pet safely back in your care. This is a great first step to getting your pet back and can be done very quickly.  Facebook really helps recover lost cats and dogs!
